RODA BEACH CLUB
« on: July 04, 2008, 10:25:32 PM »
HI ALL

I have heard that the Beach Club is to open finally on 10th July - I do hope hte rumour is true - I have seen some pix of what they have done and it is truly fantastic.  They have taken a listed 70's villa (once used for one of the Bond movies) , taken it down to t he bare bones but have remodelled it to provide a state of the art beach club on the tip of La Manga.

If anyone has got any photos they would be much appreciated and confirmation that 10th July is actually opening day.

I have heard that the beach club is open to non Roda owners, does anyone know if this is true?  Might like to call in, if we are down that way sometime.

HI Dave

If it is open to non-owners, I will be having words with our comunidad president.  The idea was to keep it exclusive and I know this issue is causing a great deal of concern to us owners.

Hi Sandra

From what I remember the beach club is only open to residents of Roda Golf but non members can go in I think after 8pm which is for restaurant bookings only.  I did get a brochure but left it in Spain.

We had the opportunity of going to the Beach Club wih our friends on the whole we enjoyed the day out and the service to and from Roda was very good.  We picked up a mini bus on Roda which took us to the ferry we then had a lovely sail across the Mar Menor on arriving we were met by a air conditioned coach which dropped us off at the beach club.  The club is not very big so I would think you would have to book early to avoid disappointment.  Not sure if it is finished yet but there did not seem many places to sit and eat lunch.  We found the floor area dirty (which my friend reported on her return) with cigarette ends, food and drink stains on the floor we were one of the first to arrive there so in my opinion they need to get their act together I would say not good enough for a five star Beach Club.  My friend also slipped on the slope into the swimming pool we also seen quite a few people slipping there is a sign saying carefull slippy but only on one side this is a concern as children just run into the water (this was also reported to the office on our return).

So Sandra you are going to be everyones friend when it comes to a visit to Roda Beach Club.

Regards Val

Hi Val

Thanks for that - but I have seen reports that Spanish non-residents are coming ashore from their boats and using the facilities during the day - I am sure that Roda residents will get it sorted= especially since the sister site owners at Corvera have been told they can't use the Club!

I am as ever everyone's friend and you will be most welcome when I make my inaugral trip to the Beach Club!!!

I am still over the moon, COS I GOT GAS AT LA TERCIA!!!

Hi Sandra,

A couple of other things about the Beach Club are that they issue you with a coloured waterproof wrist band on entry for ID purposes. There are excellent changing and shower facilities there together with lockers.

You can also use your Roda members card for a discount at the bar and restaurant.

Whilst having lunch there we saw two young 'gate crashers' being escorted away from the beach area and off the premises.

Regards,

Ray

Does anyone know if a date has been set for opening up the beach club for 2009?  I know it didn't open until July last year but I'm sure I heard it was going to open much earlier this year.  Any info much appreciated.

Hi Jane

I heard it was June but I can't absolutely swear to that.  Do you know, I have not been out there since it was completed yet.......  next time we are out there I think a trip will be in order.

Hi Sandra,

It's mainly for our rental guests that I want to know.  We're hoping to go out to Roda in late June so hopefully it should be open by then.

I think you'll love it.  We went just once last summer a few days after it had opened, our only reservation was the condition of the beach itself - hopefully this will have improved next time we visit.  We found the food and service to be fine, there will probably be changes for this year because of the new management in place.  Val is right in her earlier posting though - it is quite slippy around the pool itself - so be warned!

We didn't take the ferry but drove ourselves, which took about 50 minutes.  The journey was ok until La Manga itself, where the traffic was really busy as it was mid-July.  I think next time we'll try the boat trip.

It will be hard to sell Roda if the Beach Club is closed. Surely it should be open at least mid May to mid August?

Cheers

Hi, we were out at Roda last week and asked when the Beach Club was going to open this year and were told that it would be June.....

We also saw Mike Malone of De Vere to ask him about the hotel and he said that a decision would be taken towards the end of this year as to whether the time was right to commence building the hotel and it would then take two years to complete. He looked us in the eye and said that De Vere had no plans to shelve the building of the hotel.....

We have guests going out at the weekend and they will be expecting the beach club to be open.  It is a real problem for those of us trying to market the resort ourselves, whilst not having up to date information as to what will be available.

Thanks for the latest update on the hotel, that sounds encouraging anyway.  I've said before that I'm not bothered about the hotel for now, just more facilities for owners and renters alike, so the tennis courts coming along is good news - maybe the commercial centre will follow?

Yes, let's hope so and to be fair, they were really cracking on with the sports' facilities and had done a lot even in the week we were there. Once Roda get started it doesn't take long and the quality of the work is always good, too - it is just them getting started that seems to be the problem!

With regards to the commercial centre, we were also asking about that and May 2010 was being touted as the finish date for it - that would make such a big difference if that were the case so fingers well and truly crossed. We are going out again at the end of the month so will ask again about the commercial centre and also see how the sports' facilities are looking. It is Roda and not de Vere who are responsible for building the commercial centre and I think they wait until everybody has signed up for the commercial centre before beginning to build it.

Just seen on the other forum (sshh!) that the Beach Club will be open from MOnday 8th June, but that the transport does not start until 1st July (It could only happen in Spain!!!).

So, I assume you could either drive round (and that's a lot of road humps to bump over) or take the ferry from Santiago, take your bikes, and cycle the rest of the way!!!

As you say - only in Spain.  Anyway, I hope it will be open on the 8th, it's not such a bad drive and my guests are hiring a car so they should be ok.

May 2010 sounds good if true.  As you say, once Roda actually start building a project they are very quick and the commercial centre would make all the difference in the world to the resort.
