N.I.E. Number
« on: October 15, 2006, 10:50:57 AM »
Hi All

Some information regarding how to obtain your N.I.E.Number,it may be useful to some members.

We obtained our`s through our agent taking about 2hrs in total, from being picked up at the hotel and completing paperwork to being dropped back off at hotel no problems at all.

We received our Number about 3 weeks later from our agent.

In person Before the foreigners office in a local Police Station of the area (not every PS has a foreigners office, usually you will have to go to the Central PS of the Province)
You need to fill the 'EX 14' form ( http://www.mir.es/SGACAVT/modelos/extranjeria/documentacion/ex-14.pdf ) and make them very clear you want the number only, not the residence card and that you are a non-resident.
You will also need your passport and at least 3 passport size photos it is better to go there around 9:00 just after they are open and much better if you speak fluent Spanish or go with a Spanish friend/lawyer/agent to assist you.

Hi Dave

Sandra sent me the forms to get the NIE at the Spanish Embassy in London - that is how she and Allen got theirs.  We are going to go up to town for the day to do ours - good excuse for some retail therapy in Oxford Street.  It seems very straight forward.

Hi All

Sandra did you find obtaining, your N.I.E. from the Spanish Embassy quite straight forward?.

Are there likely to be any problems, did you have to wait long for your number?.

Regards
Dave

Hi DAve

It was easy going to the Consulate (not the Embassy actually) and just waiting to see their Notary, paying your fee etc.  all over in half an hour amd you just turn up - no appointment needed.    They then send the notarised forms off to Madrid and that does take some time - probably a couple of months or so.  Madrid then send them on to a nominated address in Spain (has to be to a Spanish address) - so we used our agent.  Cost was £22 per application.  That was the long winded bit and of course without the NIE you can't do the bank account opening and all sorts of other things.  Anyway, it all worked out and we now have our NIE numbers, bank accounts, Power of Attorney and Wills all organised.

If I think of any more information on this I will post it.

Hi
Haven't got our NIE numbers yet, MRI are arranging it for us for when we go out next Feb. We have however opened a Spanish bank account with Banco Halifax Hispania. Really easy did not need NIE number just had to go into a local Halifax branch to have our passports and driving licences verified. If you also have a current account with Halifax you get free transfers to the Spanish one in euro's.
If you go onto www.halifax.es you can get all the info there for anyone interested that hasn't got an NIE number yet.

Hello All

Thanks for the info. regarding the N.I.E number.  Great news that this can be sorted out in the Spanish Embassy in London.  As our agent is based in Almeria, this has saved us the long commute from Murcia.

Bye for now

Val and Paul.

Hi all,
some info on NIE.

We went to the town hall near La zenia and waited outside at 7.45. The building didnt open until 8.30 but it gets very busy and they can only process 50 per day. We went in and obtained a ticket (bit like deli counter at Sainsbury's) and had to return at 10. We waited until our turn and our solicitor was there to help out with tranlation etc. We handed over two photos and signed a couple sheets and that was that. A long process for a couple of minutes. The notary however took 2 and a half hours in total. We went to the Notary in San Javier. We basically had to wait for a room, when we managed to get the room our solicitor tranlated the documents etc for us and the Notary came checked our passports, we signed a couple of documents and that was that. We had to wait 2 hours for the room though :(
Our agents arranged all that for us and we were happy with what they did. Wont mention who the agents are as they hadnt been all that good until now (I wonder if anyone can guess who they are!!!).

But all done now

Help! NIE number
« Reply #13 on: April 17, 2007, 08:01:35 PM »
Hello everyone,
Excuse my ignorance about the NIE number getting debacle.
First does anyone know if we need a separate number for both of us on the contract or just one?
We were going to let our solicitor over in Spain arrange this with power of attorney, but they have written to say the laws changed and we have to apply personally.
Has everyone already arranged all this...?
Help...gulp!

See you in September

Hi Rob ,

Yea , we have got ours , really easy , what we did was to arrange with our Spanish solicitor to go to the immigration place in Murcia , all we needed was copies of passports and both parents names , in all honesty it took us longer to drive to Murcia with her than it did to apply for the numbers , 5 mins , applications stamped we signed the papers and hey presto , job done .

I think you need a number for each person who is going to be named on the deeds....im not sure , if anybody could clarify .

Nothing to worry about , hope this helps.
