Artificial turf
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:50:13 PM »
Hi, wondering if anyone has experience of installing artificial turf at their properties. I am buying at La Tercia Real and the showhome gardens have such turf, and I've heard it's really good. Certainly save on watering a lawn. The company that the builder uses wants some €50/sqm, so wondering if anyone knows a cheaper supplier?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

We spotted a really good quality one that had blades of grass that resembled the real stuff . From memory is was priced at 14.50 euros a linear metre and we'll certainly be giving it some serious consideration, it didn't have that look of cheap green bedroom carpet with a very short haircut!! Can't remember the exact name of the place, but it's on the N332 just after St Javier going  north and it has a big restaurant just next door. Hope that helps. Perhaps we could all do a bulk purchase and get the price down a bit.

Hi Malc & Jane,

Do you mean the road into San Javier past Dos Mares on your left hand side where there are a few furniture shops and a Peugot car showroom.  What type of shop was it?

Hi Val,

It's just through St Javier , you can't miss it, you see the board (a great big one) advertising the restaurant and the garden centre on the left hand side of the road, it's easy to park, there's a great big space just in front of it.

Wh are you going out there? There is also a garden centre that advertises in english in one of the freebie papers , they say they sell everything for the garden, should think they have the astro turf too, checking them out when we go again in October, they're called Botanica, on the A30  exit 164  Centra Los Martinez del Puerto a Corvera Tel no 968 38 28 29 . Don't know if anyone has been to this one.

Hi

Been to Botanica, on the A30  exit 164  it's brilliant. We want to put pots of small trees and plants (and an irrigation system  ;D) on our solarium and they have a wonderful selection.

Hi Malc & Jane,

Thank you for the directions and for the information on the garden centre.  We also go out again in October and will check both places out.

Thanks for the info, all. Our villas (La Tercia Real) are a long way off completion so if anyone wants to do a bulk purchase they'll have to wait!

Hi everyone,

Just spent some time this afternoon reading Clodagh and Dick's book, and thoughts turned to our little garden and terrace at UGR. Been wondering about artificial grass. Googled it and so far it seems to be a little like making a choice about carpet . It's made in different thicknesses from 9mm to 40mm can either be filled with sand or rubber, and prices vary between £10 and £20p sq.m. Some seems much more life like than others. Knowing how much we brits in partcular love our green swards, just wondered if anyone had come across the stuff on any shopping expeditions so far in and around Murcia? Does anyone know if Botanica on the way to Cartagena stock it? Wondering if Clodagh and Dick have any more handy hints on the subject, i.e. can we get it wrong?

Any help gratefully accepted

This may sound like a stupid question, and please don't hesitate to tell me if it is, but because of the heat, won't it melt (the artificial turf that is!).

Hi Sandra,

Not entirely a silly question, Sandra, hadn't thought of that one!! suppose any rubber filled ones may do, don't really know, but we sincerely hope not!!! Totally relying on Dick and Clodagh's , or anyone else's experience, this is the beauty of this site isn't it, being able to pick peoples' brains.

How are your excitement levels? ;D ;D

Hi Malc & Jane

Oh just getting a little excited about things!  The Meubles Direct people have just contacted to say they hadn't been on the site for 12 months and they think it is fantastic!

We won't be going out again until January  and we are really looking forward to the whole thing.

See you in Coventry

Sandra

PS glad you didn't laugh when I asked "would it melt"?!!

The Artificaial turf round the Tercia Real show houses is very good, worth a look and they might tell you where it came from.
I have walked on it on a hot day and did not stick !!!

A reply from Clodagh and Dick re the artificial turf.

Our observations are that there are cheap brands sold by the metre or roll in many good garden centres and hardware shops which could be used to brighten up terrace or cover up unexciting tiles with little preparation.
Then there are expensive brands as used on golf course greens, tennis courts and football pitches which are best traced through a tennis court contractor or a local hotel that has used it.These need perfect preparation of the underlying soil/sand and both preparation and plastic costs can be up to over 50 euros a square metre. Hope this helps.

You can also get artificial turf at the Polaris world garden centre, the centre is just across the way from PW Mar Menor.
