Hi

I have located the information about the new road, the information came from CITY COUNCIL OF MURCIA press release.I have translated, the info from Spanish so hope it reads OK.

The new variant of Sucina, will allow to unite Murcia with the beach without crossing pedanía. The Governing body initiates the hiring of the highway, that will be ready before the summer. The Governing body has initiated the proceedings, for the hiring by means of it auctions of the Project of construction of an alternative avenue of passage between Highway MU-301 and the Stroll of the Cemetery in Sucina (Murcia).

The execution of this “variant” will allow to circulate from the MU-301 (zone of beach, from San Javier), in the direction of Murcia, without happening through the center of pedanía of Sucina.

The predicted budget is of 1.3 million Euros and the implementation time of about 5 months, reason why the new avenue will be ready and in operation before the next summer. This new highway will clear the traffic in the urban nucleus of locality.

One is an avenue that will run by the northwest of the urban helmet, and will give service to the new urbanizations that are being constructed in the zone. The new variant will connect with highway MU-301 (Murcia-Saint Javier), and it will have a length of 640 meters. In addition, two public squares will be constructed to facilitate the turns, and the incorporations to the lateral streets. The new avenue will have a width of 13 meters, with a track by each sense and parking to one of the sides.

All more good news for the Murcia region.

Hi Brian

The information we have regarding the roads leading down to the development, the developers in the area are going to be funding the upgrading of the roads. This may well be in a few years, no point laying new roads just yet with the number of HGV`s on this road.

Eileen and I are looking forward to driving along the road with the lemon and orange trees at the side , the development and mountains coming into view has we come around the corner of the road great bring it on ;)

I`am sure I can manage to miss the pot holes in the road  ;D ;D

Thanks  Dave    Yes  when we were there in April the smell of the lemon and orange blossom was wonderful.

I gathered that it may take time because of the work continuing

Hi Everyone

When we were out in April, the potholes were being filled with tarmac as a temporary measure.  As Dave said, the developers will be funding a new road surface and street lighting.  This could be a few years off as the major work will need to be completed first. I suppose its in the interest of the developers as it detracts from their sites if access is poor.  I remember going to La Manga club years ago and the access was very similar.  You drove through lemon groves but had to endure the pot holed road to get there.

Level crossing replaced with "safer" bridge

Part of the railway line between Chinchilla and Cartagena was removed last week, as a level crossing was taken away, with the aim of making the crossing a safer place for both cars and pedestrians. The Council for Public Works, Housing and Transport has invested more than 2 million euros in the changes.

A new bridge, constructed in the area of Torre Pacheco near Balsicas, now means that vehicles and pedestrians can avoid the crossing. Present at the removal of the level crossing on the C3319 were the Councillor for Public Works, Housing and Transport, José Ballesta, Government Delegate Ángel González, the Mayor of Torre Pacheco Daniel García and the General Manager of Transport and Highways Carmen Sandoval.

The budget for the project was 2.184 million euros. The removal of the crossing forms part of an overall plan to reduce the number of level crossings on the roads, in an agreement from November 2001. The new and better crossing has 2 lanes of 3.5 metres wide, allowing vehicles to pass in both directions. As a further safety measure, there are verges and barriers at the side of the bridge. The pedestrian walkways are 2 metres wide. The whole bridge is 20m in length, and underneath will be a green area.

On both sides there will also be a one way "via de servicio", allowing vehicles to change direction, and giving access to the local fincas. During the inauguration, Sr. Ballesta stated that "safety is the most important factor, and this has led to the removal of the level crossing in a zone of growth such as Tore Pacheco".The Reporter Newspaper CB

Mar Menor to Murcia Motorway Finished on Time

The new motorway from Mar Menor to Murcia will go through Sucina and will be completed next year. This was announces by the regional councillor for infrastructure last week .

The works were slowed down in a number of regions during February to July  because  they have been awarded special bird status .These areas were the Monte del Valle, Sierra Altaona and Sierra Escalona .

The works were delayed whilst the birds were building their nests .

More than 100 million euros has been spent on this project and it has been estimated that 6,000 will use the new motorway daily during the winter , doubling in number during the summer .
