MORE RODA SPORTS FACILITIES
« on: June 02, 2009, 09:39:18 AM »
Hi All

Just read on an alternative forum that the tennis courts and the 5 a side football pitch are now complete - Happy Lady - can you let us know when they are available for use and how much etc and where they can be booked?

I am thrilled that at last we are getting some of the facilities  - it will make the resort so much more attractive.

Happy Owner

Great news at last, if anyone at Roda could take some photos that would also be much appreciated.

Thanks

There have already been moans and groans Jane about this on the other foru - ranging from "about time too and I have had no interest on my money for 4 years" from a Phase 4er" and "its too near the golf and should have been the 7th tee" (I don't understand that one but Hugh man will) to my comment which was "Brilliant news"!!!

I think its great that at long last Roda are putting on some of what was promised - I say better late than never!

Hi Sandra

I just saw this and will be happy to take some photos in the next few days. I noticed tonight that the Paddel courts are now "astro turfed" if that is the term. Everything looks really well and there is new fencing going up leading up to the courts and pitch. There seem to be changing facilities there too but I am unsure as to where you pay and how much, although I would imagine that the Pro Shop will co-ordinate bookings for the courts and the five a side pitch as they have a system set up for it.
I will check with them tomorrow and let you know.
I agree with you about the moaners on the other forum but some people are never happy. I think that it is brilliant for us on Roda and will certainly give the young people somewhere to meet up and some of us older ones as well!! For those who visit, who don't play golf it is great to have something else to offer.

Many thanks Happy Lady - good news all round - paddel courts as well!  I just saw Mike Butler's video on YouTube - very good!

I can sympathise with some of the comments - i.e. no interest on money etc., but quite honestly it will be fantastic to go to Roda and see some activity as well as golf.  As a still very incompetent golfer it will be quite a while before I can grace the course with my presence, so maybe I can learn to Paddel?  What does that involve exactly??????  Where can I buy a paddel outfit please?

Hi All,
Does anybody know how many tennis/paddle courts there are?

And like you Jane I am not quite sure what a paddle court is (is it similar to sqaush?) does anybody know?

Cheers Rory.

Mike has said he thinks that there are quite a few courts and there are now some pix available.  I will ask Mike to post on the Forum here or at least send me the photos and I will post them.

Jane - we need to organise a PADDELL tournament once we find out what the game is!!!  What do you think?  And with regard to outfits - well as long as it does not involve a bikini!!!!!!! like beach volleyball! - not a pretty sight as far as I am concerned)

Paddel/paddle/paddell?  We seem to be having a problem here - if we can't spell the game I don't think it bodes well for us organising a tournament.  Sandra, your comment about bikini paddell had me smiling until lunchtime yesterday - do you think we might be being ridiculous??????

Hi Jane

I think it will be the Apres PADEL/PADDELL/PADDLE that will interest us more possibly?  Its only a step or 2 to that nice outside Terrace at the Casa Club - what do you think?  !!! ;D

I asked my better half who is no expert on this matter but says he thinks it may be like short tennis, so Rory, not really like squash.  Apres Paddle sounds good to me.

Well that's that sorted then - let those who want to get hot and sweaty on the PADDLE court and we shall remain cool, calm, collected and enjoying a glass of wine or two, or three even, sitting on the Club House terrace just observing!!!

Have a good weekend all!

Fraid I cannot shed any light on what exactly paddle tennis consists of but I think there are two paddle courts, one 5 a side pitch and one tennis court.

When asked why only one tennis court Roda Customer services said they thought there would not be demand for more, that surprises me a little.

I have also looked at other forums and I can certainly sympathise with some of those that have paid over a sizeable deposit and still not been able to move into an apartment, especially as prices in general have dipped considerably and many promised facilities have still not been completed in order to make it a 5 star resort.

With regard to the sports facilities placement, I too was a little surprised to see them right next to the signature hole par 3, 7th green as golfers on the tee will not be amused at noisy footballers or tennis players. close by.
Originally the hotel was planned to overlook this 7th hole as a feature and the tennis facilities were planned to be nearer to the road and entrance. Not sure why this has changed.

I have repeatedly emailed Ana Escribano to ask if she would send us updates and news to post on here for owners benefit but so far have had no response.
I emailed again today asking for details of the sports facilities inc prices and bookings etc. Will post if I hear anything.

I have not been able to get anywhere close enough to take a photo of the courts as the new fencing has been put up and it is very hard to get a good photo. However I saw basketball nets along with the goal posts sitting by the courts tonight so looks like we will have basketball as well. Paddel seems to be similar to tennis but the racquet is solid and the ball a bit less bouncy. The court is also a bit smaller and it is apparently great fun and a good doubles sport. With temperatures in the 30's already I will wait until autumn to check it out I think. Everything looks good and we will be paying and booking for the courts in the Pro Shop I understand. If I hear anything about prices I will let you know.
